B.Tech students in Kochi experiencing recession blues in the job market are now eyeing openings in public sector units in the State and outside.

Thousands have applied for vacanices coming up in various public sector units fearing that job offers made by IT companies might not translate into reality in the coming months.

Several students had already received intimation from private software companies that they have put on hold new recritments.

Even leading IT players have made it clear that they will not able to honour the job offers given during campus placements last year. Kiran Abraham, a computer science student, who got a rejection slip last week, said that he had laready applied to four public sector units in the State.

\"I have no other optins but to look out for openings in the public sector. There is no point waiting for things to get clear in the IT sector. I have to keep moving\" he said.

Public sector units are also ready to absorb engineering talents. A senour official in the human resource department of a public sector unit in Kochi sadi that the screening process would be tough.

\"We are happy that there are a number of talented youngsters waiting out there for an opening\" the official of the public sector unit said.
